10 on Tuesday: Cheap Date Ideas

Welcome to my new Tuesday segment, 10 on Tuesday! Tunes Tuesday had a great run and will return after the holiday season. Now it's time to switch it up and bring you fresh new information and ideas. Today's 10 on Tuesday is a list of ideas to impress that special someone without spending your whole paycheck. Check it out!

1. Indoor Picnic

It’s cold outside, but don’t let that keep you from enjoying a nice picnic. Lay out a blanket indoors and enjoy homemade sandwiches and lemonade together.

2. Dinner and a Movie: Remixed

Going out to eat and catching a movie after is expensive. Save money and enjoy a unique experience by cooking dinner at home together. Set the table with a fancy tablecloth and make restaurant inspired recipes. After dinner, enjoy a Redbox rental for only $1.

3. Volunteer Together

Volunteering is a great way to spend time together while giving back to your community. Search for volunteer opportunities at VolunteerMaine.org.

4. Play a Board Game with Prizes

You’re never too old for a game of Candy Land. Put those board games from your childhood to good use and battle it out for a prize. Winner gets to pick the movie.

5. Old School Video Games

Still have that old game console laying around? It doesn’t get much better than the classics. Grab some nostalgic snacks (I’m thinking Dunkaroos and Hawaiian Punch) and enjoy a night of Super Mario Brothers.

6. Chopped: Date Edition

Are you a fan of cooking shows? Host a Chopped challenge of your own and see who is the most creative in the kitchen. Each person places 3 to 4 random food items in a basket and gives it to the other person. You both must create a dish incorporating all of the secret ingredients chosen by the other person. Enjoy your creations together for dinner.

7. Tour Your Town

Some of us live in a town or city for years and never take a chance to see it through the eyes of a tourists. Look up local attractions and museums and plan a day of sightseeing your city together.

8. Get Active

Go for a run, take a bike ride or sign up for a fitness class together. You could also register for a morning 5K road race and celebrate your success with a healthy brunch.

9. Groupon Getaway

If you’re looking for something a bit more elaborate for a birthday or anniversary, plan a weekend away using Groupon Getaways. Hotels and bed and breakfasts offer affordable two-night stays through Groupon. It’s a great opportunity to escape everyday life and travel to a new place on a budget.

10. Day Trip on MegaBus

Hop on a bus in Portland and be in Boston just over two hours later. Buy your tickets in advance through MegaBus and you could pay just $1 for a one-way ticket! MegaBus is great for a cheap weekend adventure.
