10 on Tuesday: To-Do Before Christmas

A week from today is Christmas day. When did that happen? I like to have a bucket list of things to do before Christmas so I remember to fit in all of my favorite holiday traditions before we have to say goodbye to tinsel and pine needles for a whole year. Here's 10 things you must do before next Tuesday!

10 Things To-Do Before Christmas

1. Listen to Christmas music

The best way to get into the holiday spirit is to turn up the tunes. I love having Christmas music playing the background as I blog, clean, bake and wrap presents. Check out the Spokester Holiday Hits playlist for some good jams.

2. Bake and decorate sugar cookies

Look at these cookies my talented aunt made. So beautiful! Okay, so maybe yours come out too crunchy or your decorating skills aren't Pinterest worthy, but decorating sugar cookies is practically a requirement during the holiday season.

3. Watch your favorite Christmas movie

Put on your pajamas (bonus points if they're Christmas themed), grab some popcorn and curl up on the couch with some friends and family to watch your favorite Christmas classics. I watch The Santa Clause every year. I can recite the lines by heart!

4. Make a homemade gift

If you're like me, you probably haven't finished your shopping yet. Save a few bucks and make a homemade gift instead. Mix up a batch of peppermint munch and give out to friends in a fancy jar or container they can reuse when the treats are gone.

5. Wear an ugly sweater

'Tis the season for ugly sweater parties! Dig up a gem at a thrift store or ask relatives if they have anything kicking around their basements. Be careful! Asking grandma to borrow an "ugly sweater" is an easy way to land on the naughty list this year.

6. Lend a hand to someone in need

Run some errands for a homebound neighbor, donate some spare change in the red Salvation Army buckets, or volunteer your time at a food pantry. Helping others in times of need, even little gestures, will make the season a little brighter for everyone.

7. Enjoy a mug of hot chocolate

It doesn't matter if it comes in a packet with those crunchy little marshmallows or you make it from scratch on the stove, make sure you take the time to sip a cup of hot cocoa on a cold day.

8. Go on a Christmas lights cruise

I love it when neighborhoods and communities decorate every front porch and street lamp with strings of lights. Everything looks magical when it's all lit up. Take a cruise with some friends and look for the best displays in your town. Some places go all out! Dr. Z in Augusta decorates his orthodontics practice with lights that dance along to music. Darling's Honda Nissan Volvo in Bangor is rocking their own Epic Light Show from 4 p.m. everyday. You can stop in to enjoy the lights and music along with some edible treats!

9. Take a goofy holiday picture

Remember when you were a kid and your mom made everyone dress up in matching sweater sets for the family Christmas card? Do you still have to do that? Taking a goofy picture with your friends or family around Christmas time is a fun way to see how everyone changes from year to year. My friend Michelle and I decided to try and duplicate the cover from Hanson's Snowed In album one year. I was just a baby at 16-years old! How embarrassing!

10. Tell your friends and family you love them

Recent events have shown us how unpredictable life can be. Don't waste any chance you have to tell your friends and family how much you love them.

What's on your list of things to-do before Christmas rolls around?
