Time is such a funny thing. Sometimes it goes by in the blink of an eye. “I’ve been watching movies all day?” And at times it can just drag on, like waiting for the bus, or sitting through a boring lecture. Either way, though, it’s the same amount of time. Funny how that works, isn’t it?
As I sit here writing this, I start to think of all the time I’ve wasted recently. I have spent hours at my work-study job playing solitaire instead of studying. Now, I did a good job in all of my classes, but how much better could I have done if I used my time smartly?
That’s what most of the greatest people in the world do; they use their time wisely. If they have a job to do, they get it done. And they get it done before they do something else. It’s dedication to what they love that makes them great. By focusing on their passions they become experts in their field. Just think of the great politicians, althletes, musicians, teachers, or leaders. They use their time educating themselves, and when its something they love, it doesn’t even seem like a job.
When we find our passion, we use our time better. Now, that’s not to say that we can’t goof off a bit here and there. There are some mornings at work when I just need to mindlessly play solitaire. And that’s ok. I’m passionate about music. I can spend an hour practicing my singing, and it feels like 5 minutes to me. I think that’s how I know I’m on the right track. I’m following my passion and letting the time just fly by.
