Bangor, Portland, Boston and beyond may have larger population numbers, but Aroostook County is home to many small, tight-knit communities where members are family, friends and neighbors. The credit unions in Northern Maine know their members and can then anticipate their needs, which only strengthens the relationship between the people and their cooperatives. The people in The County truly embody and represent what credit unions are all about. They hold onto traditions that have lasted the test of time and pool their resources to remain strong. Stronger together. People helping people. As much as I love my home in Southern Maine, it was refreshing to make the journey north. The people are so welcoming, and I had an absolute blast covering the Can-Am Sled Dog Race, which has become a staple of Northern Maine culture. Watch my latest video for scenes from the race, as well as some highlights from credit unions in The County about their community and how they embody the “people helping people” philosophy.
How far north have you been? I'd love to know!
