Well, today is the last day of my vacation until I am back in action! It's been a great vacation with my lovely wife! We had a great weekend in Bar Harbor, and are now almost back to the real world where we work. For today's blog, I just had to feature failed sodas over the years. Why? Well, I have no idea really. I love looking back and thinking to myself, "Holy cow! I remember drinking that...it was awful!". Who doesn't like a nice dose of nostalgia? I know I do! I found the feature article at Business Insider (one of my favorite sites) and decided to talk about some sodas that I remember from the early years! Here we gooooooo!
Pepsi Blue came out in 2002. To give you some idea of when that happened, I was a freshmen in high school. I actually remember drinking Pepsi Blue and I don't think it was anything overly special...which makes sense considering it met its demise in 2004. It was berry flavored, sugary and rather unpleasant. On the plus side, here's a cool commercial of the stuff!
I'm actually a little bummed that Surge is no longer around because it was pretty tasty. I even remember winning a Surge bucket hat one time in a giveaway they had on the labels. Man...that was an awesome day! Surge made it's American debut in 1996 and lasted six whole years before getting the boot! Part of me things about that fateful day when I had my first sip of Surge. It was love at first sip...okay that's a lie, I have no recollection of when I first tasted it. All I know is that it's no longer with us!
Coca Cola BlaK
I have to be honest when I say I loved this drink. It was crazy sugary, and also combined my love of soda with my love of coffee in one super drink! I only had it a handful of times (because it was like syrup and relatively expensive) but the times I drank it, I enjoyed it. Looking back, I'd probably hate it now, but at the time it was glorious. It hit shelves in 2006 and met its end in 2008...Apparently Anderson Cooper didn't enjoy it either.
As a side note, I almost never buy soda anymore. I'll drink water and coffee and that is just about it. In fact, I'd probably be okay if I never drank soda again. You never know though...if some of these come back for a second run, I may just try them!
What soda do you miss the most?
