Free Fun for the Fourth

Happy Fourth of July!

I love this holiday. It’s the perfect excuse for spending time with family and friends and eating my weight in burgers, s’mores and pasta salad. I’m currently out on the lake celebrating our beautiful country, but through the magic of the Internet I am bringing you free fun things to do today in celebration of this All-American holiday.

United States Trivia

If you find yourself with nothing to do while sitting lakeside, poolside or inside, try challenging your friends and family to a little U.S. trivia. It’s a great way to entertain each other while seeing how much you remember (or forgot) since history and geography class in grade school. This site is a great place to start for basic trivia. It’s a quiz designed for kids, so it shouldn’t be too tough, right? (Wrong. I missed 6 questions.)

Patriotic Playlist

I love a good Patriotic song. I put together a playlist on Spotify of my favorite hits that celebrate America as well as other songs to provide a soundtrack for the day. Check it out below or put together a playlist of your own.

Bruce Springsteen – Born In The U.S.A.
Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers – 4th of July
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – American Girl
Miley Cyrus – Party in the U.S.A.
Zac Brown Band – Keep Me in Mind
Rodney Atkins – Farmer’s Daughter
VersaEmerge – American Boy (Acoustic)
Zac Brown Band – Free
Jimi Hendrix – Star Spangled Banner (Live at Woodstock)
Zac Brown Band ft. Jimmy Buffett – Knee Deep
Carrie Underwood – All-American Girl
Bruce Springsteen – Glory Days
John Mellencamp – R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
Fun. ft. Janelle Monae – We Are Young
Zac Brown Band – Chicken Fried

Community Fireworks

The Fourth of July and fireworks have become synonymous over the years. John Adams first mentioned these awe-inspiring pyrotechnic displays in a letter to Abigail Adams. He said the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence should be celebrated with “pomp, parade and illuminations” and Americans have continued to celebrate the country’s birthday with all of these things. Check out this list of Fourth of July events across the state, including free fireworks displays.

Free Hot Dogs in Farmington

Nothing beats free food, except for maybe free food for a good cause. The Henderson Memorial Baptist Church in Farmington will offer free hot dogs after the Fourth of July parade. Donations are accepted to help raise money to assist needy households with their heating bills.

Enjoy the Fourth of July, everyone!
