Fresh & Fit Friday (Bread Making)

AFFORD FUN THIS FALL.

Cheap hobbies are a challenge to find. But investing in a hobby is not always a bad choice. Small investments can be long term money savers. I discovered this bread-making machine at my local Marden's store. (And I made the right decision:  I bought it when I saw it).

This $35 bread machine can produce a deliciously fresh loaf of bread. There is nothing like bread hot from the oven (or hot from the bread machine).

But can you really save money with this machine?

I broke down the costs.

100% Whole Wheat Bread (Hannaford Brand) with Double Fiber:  $2.89

Homemade 100% Whole Wheat Bread (one recipe):                        $1.65

INGREDIENTS COST BREAK DOWN

1 and 5/8 Cup Water...............................$0

1/3 Cup Brown Sugar..............................$0.17

2 tsp Salt....................................................$0.01

4 and 2/3 Cup Whole Wheat Flour......$0.97

3 tsp. Yeast.................................................$0.50

To account for the cost of your bread machine, divide its total cost by the number of times you use the machine, and add that to the total cost of one homemade loaf of bread. If you use a $35 dollar machine 30 or more times, you beat the cost of the Hannaford brand store bread!

Happy Saving!
