Winter is practically here
And I've got a feeling it's going to be a cold and snowy 2013-2014 season. Some of us Young & Free Mainers are probably getting excited and already tuning up our skis and snowboards. But for the others, you're probably shaking in your boots fretting winter.
Personally, I say BRING ON THE SNOW! I can't wait to get on my skis and hit the slopes all winter long. But no matter who you are and what your preference is on winter, you're going to need to stay safe on the winter roads.
My new roommate drives a Subaru which is equipped with AWD which is prime on slippery roads. But he also goes to the next step and puts studded snow tires on each winter. He also carries around tire chains just in case. That may be a little over kill, but at least he's prepared, right? Some people are more comfortable with winter driving than others, so let's all try to stay safe this winter with a little bit of preparing.
The ice scrapper is essential, but there are a few more things you should know!
- Check the tread depth on each tire using the penny trick
- Check proper PSI for each tire
- Check all fluid levels (oil, windshield wiper fluid, and anti-freeze)
- Keep a small bag of sand in the trunk for tire traction
- Keep extra winter gear in the car in case of emergency
Check out the video below from your awesome former Spokester, Kylie Keene! She'll show you exactly how to prepare your car for winter using the tips above!
