Iron Man’s Car? I Think Yes.

The Avengers.

For some of you that was all I needed to say to get you jumping out of your seat with excitement.  The super hero movie has been breaking box office records like the hulk through an evil army of aliens.  I went to see it myself at the midnight premier and found it to be one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while and just before the movie ended something flashed on the screen that stuck with me even through the credits.  Iron man’s car.  Tony Stark can be seen driving off from the scene in a fierce maroon Acura, stunning car fans and movie goers alike.  So I did some research and found out that it was the Acura NSX which is scheduled to debut in 2015 at an estimated price tag of $130,000.  One hundred and thirty thousand dollars?  Captain America would have to sell a whole lot of war bonds before he would be able to afford that.  My dreams of driving the avengers’ car had been crushed.

But we all want a nice car – or at least one that won’t break down on us.  And if we aren’t a demi-god, or a man that can turn into a green giant, or have a suit that can fly and is powered by a tesla coil, how are we going to afford one?  By planning ahead.  No one just stumbles on a pot of gold on their way home from work, and although getting a loan can be a good idea sometimes, you can spend thousands of extra dollars in interest.  So here are a few tips on how to save money for a car.

Set Goals
More specifically, set a price, and time frame.  For example, let’s say you want to get a used car, you could say to yourself, “I want to save $5,000 in 18 months.”

Figure out your weekly payments.
Take your goals and figure out how much you’ll need to save out of each paycheck to be able to reach your goals.  So in the example above you’d need to save about $69 out of each week’s paycheck.

Try not to get into debt
Credit cards and new TVs can be tempting, but you can become trapped under a burden of debt very quickly.  If you have payments to make, you most certainly wouldn’t be able to afford to save for a car.

So although you might not be able to drive the car Iron Man does, you can still save up your money and get a nice car by planning ahead.  In the above example you could save yourself almost a thousand dollars over a loan simply but putting a little away each week.   So don’t forget to set goals and figure out your payments, and make sure to save what you can, when you can.  With just a few simple steps you can be living young and free – and driving a nice car too.
