On Saturday, July 18th, I traveled two and a half hours north, to the Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Aroostook County. The week-long event attracts approximately 15,000 people and potato-lovers to beautiful northern Maine. Celebrating the state's well-loved crop, festival-goers find that there is more to do than enjoy the delicious Maine potato.
From tractor pulls to street dances and parades to pageants, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The week-long celebration features musical performances, shows, road and bike races, a potato picking contest, and the classic mashed potato wrestling.
It wouldn't be right to celebrate Maine's potatoes without having some! My favorite thing about potatoes is that they can be cooked in a variety of ways, and are still delicious. They can be baked, boiled, fried, mashed, steamed, and are a great side or addition for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
My absolute favorite way to eat potatoes is cut into small cube-shaped pieces, fried in a pan (with light oil), with added seasoning. Yum!
I hope you all get a chance to enjoy some delicious Maine potatoes this summer!
