Where Are They Now: Q&A With One Shot Nothing

Catching up with 2nd place Sound Off winner, One Shot Nothing

Since earning their title as the 2nd place winner for the 2nd annual Sound Off Music Competition, One Shot Nothing has bloomed together as a band. I was able to  catch up with Justin Chamberlain, lead singer and guitarist, via email last week to see what he and his two bandmates have been up to for the past year. Excitedly enough, I caught them right after recording their new album!

Q: WHAT WERE SOME OPPORTUNITIES YOU GUYS HAD AFTER EARNING THE 2ND PLACE TITLE?

A: Playing at [KahBang Music & Art Festival] festival was an amazing opportunity to network with new fans and other musicians, and we had an absolute blast performing there. Our performance there led to future shows as well.

Q: BEFORE THE SOUND OFF COMPETITION, WHERE WAS ONE SHOT NOTHING IN THEIR MUSIC CAREER?

A: Before the Sound Off, we were a fledgling band who had never played a major festival or venue.

Q: WHERE IS ONE SHOT NOTHING NOW IN THEIR MUSIC CAREER?

A: Since we won 2nd place and played the festival, we've made new friends and fans, seen a heightened interest in our music, and have generated a decent following in our area, which is building all the time. We've just finished recording our debut full length album, made possible by a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign. Without the connections we made through KahBang and the Soundoff competition, we almost definitely would not have been funded.

Q: WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MUSICAL MOMENTS SINCE THE SOUND OFF?

A: Having just finished an 11 day recording session for our new album, I can tell you that this whole experience has been our favorite musical moment. Getting to record an album with your best friends in an amazing studio with an amazing producer - what could be better? Specifically, the day we finished tracking, after a week of late nights, and had a full album to look back on as we watched it being mixed.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR THE 18-TO-25 YEAR OLD MUSICIANS OUT THERE?

A: For the 18-25 crowd, the best advice I can give is to be humble, kind, and fun to work with. If you possess those qualities, opportunities will appear for you everywhere. Finally, work really hard at what you want. That's how we got to where we are, and that's how we'll keep going where we want to be.

Be sure to head over to One Shot Nothing's official website to listen to their music and find links to their Twitter and Facebook. And for your chance to take your music career to the next level, the Sound Off Music Competition is taking entries until Monday, January 27 at 5 p.m.

Be well,

Lauren R.
