Spokester position overview

Mission of the Spokester:

The Young & Free Maine Spokester is the voice of the 18-to-25 Maine crowd. This person is aware of what’s happening in the lives of people 18 to 25, can relate to them and can capture the essence of what this group is about.

What does the Spokester do?

The Young & Free Spokester will work full time attending events and posting daily blog entries and weekly video blog entries. Throughout the year, there will be numerous travel and speaking commitments.

The Spokester will:

  • Be an advocate for the 18-to-25 Maine crowd and represent Maine's Credit Unions.
  • Create YouTube videos, blog, attend cool events and… just be you!

We’ll set you up with everything you need to do your job well, including:

  • Apple® MacBook Pro notebook computer
  • HD video camera with microphone and accessories
  • Smart phone with a paid contract during your term
  • The use of a car to get around to events

These will be your tools of the trade. Plus, you get to keep the computer.

The successful applicant must be:

  • Self-motivated and able to talk to anyone, anytime
  • Dynamic, likeable and outgoing
  • Creative and energetic in writing and other communications
  • Comfortable on camera
  • Computer savvy
  • Able to film, edit and upload video
  • Comfortable with all things web
  • Organized and show strong follow-through on ideas and plans

The Young & Free Spokester must have a high school diploma. If the successful candidate is attending post-secondary school he or she will be encouraged to continue with his or her schooling, however, with the full-time commitment for this job, the Spokester may need to scale back classes and other commitments to fit the requirements of the position.

The Young & Free Spokester is required to:

  • Be or become a member of a participating credit union in Maine
  • Travel, attend and speak at events throughout the year
  • Post daily blog entries and weekly video blogs
  • Understand every aspect of Maine's Credit Unions and the free4ME Checking Account
  • Understand the general history of credit unions and the benefits of being a member by attending required credit union training classes
  • Film and edit video episodes for broadcast on the Young & Free Maine microsite through YouTube
  • Attend events as requested by the Young & Free team
  • Participate in media interviews as requested
  • Reply to member/fan email within 24 hours
  • Reply to member/fan text messages within 24 hours
  • Based on feedback from the 18-to-25 crowd, provide suggestions to Young & Free team about:
          – Video and blog post topics
          – Trends to watch for this age group
          – Ways to improve the free4ME Checking Account
          – Events to attend in the future
  • Keep proper care of all equipment and car supplied by the Contest Sponsors
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Maintain all deadlines and notify Young & Free team if there will be any problems with scheduling
  • Complete all tasks in a diligent manner
  • As a representative of Maine's Credit Unions in the community, the Young & Free Maine Spokester is expected to conduct himself or herself in a professional manner

Entry requirements


Who can enter: 

You need to be 18 to 25 years old and meet all the criteria listed in the official rules. Yeah, you gotta’ read the rules!

You need to be computer savvy, self-motivated, outgoing and generally awesome! Check out the full job description to make sure this job is for you.

Your entry must:

  • Include a short video (we suggest a maximum of 60 seconds) scripted, produced and edited by you, depicting why you would make an awesome Young & Free Maine Spokester.
  • Include a sample blog, written by you, on an entertaining financial-specific topic.
  • Include a fully completed application form.
  • Be complete and entered before the deadline at 3:00 p.m. May 24, 2013.

How to win:

  • Be sure to tell all your friends, family and fans to vote for you June 7 to 18!
  • Public votes will be a major factor in your chance to be chosen for the ultimate job.
  • Finalists will be required to attend an in-person interview between May 28 and June 5.  Finalists will be given all the details and instructions.
  • The Top 3 candidates will be required to produce another video and blog by June 12 at 3:00 p.m. 
  • The winner to be awarded the job as the Young & Free Maine Spokester will be determined based on his or her entry, pubic votes and suitability for the job.

About voting: 

  • The use of online vote garnering sites or automated vote generating systems is not allowed.
  • There is a limit of one vote per legitimate email address.
  • Votes suspected of being made via a vote garnering site, under multiple identities, or through the use of any method to vote in excess of the permitted number will be disqualified.

IMPORTANT: Since a huge part of this job is about you creating awesome videos, you must produce your application video by yourself including scripting, filming, editing and uploading. It is really important that whoever gets the Spokester job is thoroughly capable of producing his or her own videos without any outside help. Thanks!

Official Rules


These Official Rules are specific to the Young & Free Maine Spokester Search Contest (The Contest).

Definition of terms: for the purposes of this contest the terms “entry” or “submission” refers to original video or blog post.

By entering The Contest, you agree to abide by these rules and the decisions of the Contest Sponsors. You also agree to comply with all applicable state laws.

Contest Sponsors

The “Contest Sponsors” are the Maine Credit Union League and Currency Marketing who own and operate the Young & Free Maine Program.

Contest dates

  • Entry Period of The Contest begins at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) April 12, 2013 and closes at 3:00 p.m. ET May 24, 2013.
  • In-person interviews with selected entrants will be held between May 28, 2013 and June 5, 2013. Interviews will be held at the Maine Credit Union League Office, 2 Ledgeview Drive, Westbrook, Maine. Date and time of interview will be confirmed individually with each of the selected entrants. Attendance is mandatory.
  • Public Voting Period of The Contest begins at 3:00 p.m. June 7, 2013 and ends at 3:00 p.m. ET June 18, 2013.
  • The Top Three candidates will be required to submit one additional blog and video due 3:00 p.m. ET June 12, 2013. 
  • Announcement of the winner of The Contest will be made on or about June 21, 2013.

Entrant eligibility

  • A maximum of one (1) entry per person will be accepted.
  • The Contest is open to legal residents of the United States residing in Maine.
  • At the time of the contest entry deadline, entrant must be between 18 and 25 years of age. 
  • Current paid employees (including student employees and interns), retirees and representatives of the Contest Sponsors and their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, related companies agents, associates, dealers, advertising and promotional agencies—and their immediate family members (including spouse, children, step-children, parents, step-parents, in law parents, brothers and sisters) or anyone domiciled with such person or persons are not eligible to enter The Contest.
  • The Contest Sponsors shall have the right at any time to require proof of identity and/or eligibility to participate in The Contest.
  • All personal and other information requested by and supplied to the Contest Sponsors for the purpose of The Contest must be truthful, complete, accurate and in no way misleading.
  • In the event of a dispute, submissions shall be deemed to be submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the entry.

Prizes

One (1) grand prize will be awarded: The grand prize winner will be offered employment serving for approximately 10 months in a full-time position as the Young & Free Maine Spokester. The full offer of employment including terms, conditions, equipment supplied and hours of work will be provided to the winner.

The winner must be eligible to work in the U.S., be available to work full time in the Portland, Maine area during the employment period and consent and be subject to the Contest Sponsors' usual employment background checks. 

Two (2) runner-up prizes will be awarded: Each of the runners-up will be awarded a $250 gift card. 

All prizes must be accepted as awarded (with no substitutions). Any costs associated with accepting a prize shall be the sole responsibility of the winner. By entering the contest the entrant agrees that he or she is willing and able to accept the published prizes, in the event that he or she is voted a finalist or chosen a winner.

To be eligible to claim a prize, each winner must:

  • Sign a Release Form declaring compliance with the Official  Rules, assigning all rights to the submission, to the Contest Sponsors, and releasing the Contest Sponsors, their affiliates and respective advertising and promotions agencies from any liability in connection with The Contest or the prizes awarded.
  • Produce valid identification and, if requested by the Contest Sponsors, proof of age and photo identification. 

How to enter

  • No purchase or entry fees are required to enter or win The Contest.
  • Enter The Contest during the entry period by visiting YoungFreeMaine.com and following instructions for presenting your entry.      

Entry must consist of:

  • A fully completed application form
  • A short video (we recommend 60 seconds) depicting why you should be the next Young & Free Maine Spokester
  • A blog post you would write as the Young & Free Maine Spokester (entertaining and financial-specific)

Entrants that are chosen as finalists to move on to the voting phase will be required to submit an additional video and blog post and attend the in person interview. Detailed instructions and deadline dates will be forwarded to finalists. 

The Contest Sponsors will not be responsible for any lost, delayed, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, damaged or undeliverable entries, or any delay or failure to transmit, process, receive or consider entries.

Submission eligibility

Your entry submission must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for The Contest:

  • Meet the technical specifications required for it to be uploaded to, and received by, the contest website by the end of the entry phase of The Contest period.
  • Not contain any language or images or content that conflicts with any of the Contest Sponsors core values, or otherwise be objectionable to the Contest Sponsors (as determined by the Contest Sponsors in their sole discretion).
  • Not contain any content that violates any law or any third party's rights (including trademark, copyright, privacy, personal and intellectual property rights).       

Entrant agrees

By entering The Contest you represent and warrant that you:

  • Are the original creator of all components of the entry
  • That the entry meets all of the eligibility requirements set out in these rules.
  • Agree that the video and blog entry submitted with the application are being submitted on a non-confidential basis and, the Sponsors may, post to a website, use in advertising, or otherwise use that entry in connection with The Contest without compensation.

How to vote

The public may vote for their favorite entry during the vote period by visiting www.YoungFreeMaine.com and following the instructions on the contest website. Voting will be open to the general public. Vote totals will not be released to the public nor participants.

Vote eligibility

There is a limit of one vote per legitimate email address during the voting period. Votes that do not meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified.

Votes made under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or artifice to enter multiple times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries will be disqualified.

The use of any type of online vote garnering site or automated vote generating systems is prohibited.

Selecting winners

Selected entrants will be invited to an in-person interview, with representatives of the Maine Credit Union League. Three finalists will then be determined to move on to the public vote phase on the YoungFreeMaine.com site. The winner will be determined based on their original entry, in-person interview, result of the public vote, additional submissions, and their suitability for the job.

Announcing winner

The Winner will be announced on YoungFreeMaine.com and in the media on or about June 21, 2013. Potential winners who cannot be contacted, despite reasonably diligent efforts, may be disqualified.

Awarding the prizes

In order to be eligible to be awarded prize each recipient must:

  • Sign a Declaration of Compliance with the Official Rules and an Assignment, Release and Indemnity Form, assigning all rights to the submission to the Contest Sponsors, in connection with The Contest, including all copyrights and moral rights and releasing the Contest Sponsors, their affiliates and respective advertising and promotions agencies from any liability in connection with The Contest or the prizes awarded.
  • Confirm that you are the original creator of the submission and that you own all rights to it and are able to fully assign all rights to the Contest Sponsors as contemplated above.       

General

  • The Contest Sponsors may at any time in their sole discretion disqualify any entrant who: does not meet The Contest eligibility criteria, fails to comply with these rules, attempts to enter the contest in any manner or through any means other than as described in these rules, attempts to disrupt The Contest or attempts to circumvent any of these rules.
  • The decisions of the Contest Sponsors in relation to The Contest will be final and binding on all entrants.
  • The Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Maine.
  • The Contest Sponsors will not enter into correspondence with any entrant except with the selected winners and at the Contest Sponsors’ own initiative.      

License

By entering The Contest, you acknowledge that The Contest Sponsors will have the unrestricted and exclusive right to use your submission for purposes of promoting The Contest, including but not limited to, publishing it in an electronic form on the Young & Free Maine website and elsewhere for promotional purposes without further compensation. The Contest Sponsors also have the right to (but are not required to) use each entrant’s name, image, likeness, age, and biographical information in credit along with the submission.

Conduct

By participating in The Contest, each entrant agrees to be bound by The Official Rules, posted at www.YoungFreeMaine.com. Entrants further agree to be bound by the decisions of the Contest Sponsors, which shall be final and binding in all respects. The Contest Sponsors reserve the sole right, and discretion, to disqualify any entrant found to be: (a) violating The Official Rules; (b) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of The Contest; (c) violating the terms of service, conditions of use and/or general rules or guidelines of Young & Free Maine and/or Maine Credit Union League; and/or (d) acting in an unprofessional, unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.

Disclaimers, liability and indemnification

By participating in The Contest, you release and agree to indemnify and hold the Contest Sponsors and their employees, directors, officers, affiliates, agents, judges and advertising and promotional agencies harmless from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in The Contest or receipt or use of any prize.

The Contest Sponsors shall have no liability for any loss or damage to any submissions entered in The Contest or for any other loss or damage resulting directly or indirectly from your participation in The Contest.

Privacy/use of personal information

By participating in The Contest, applicant entrants (a) grant to the Contest Sponsors the right to use his or her name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address (“Personal Information”) for the purpose of administering The Contest, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the recipients; (b) grant to the Contest Sponsors the right to use his or her Personal Information for publicity and promotional purposes relating to The Contest, in any and all media now, or hereafter devised, without further compensation unless prohibited by law; and (c) acknowledge that the Contest Sponsors may disclose his or her personal information to third-party agents and service providers of any of the Contest Sponsors in connection with any of the activities listed in (a) and (b) above. The Contest Sponsors will use the entrant’s personal information only for identified purposes, and protect the entrant’s personal information in a manner that is consistent with the Contest Sponsors’ Privacy Policy.

Termination

If for any reason the Contest Sponsors cannot run The Contest as planned, (including as a result of bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, infection by computer virus or any other cause that corrupts, impairs or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of The Contest) the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to cancel, modify, extend or suspend The Contest. In that event, the Contest Sponsors may determine the winner from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment, or cancel The Contest.

Language discrepancy

In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of The Contest Official Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any The Contest-related materials, including but not limited to The Contest application form, or point of sale, print or online advertising, the terms and conditions of these Official Rules shall prevail, govern and control.
